About the race
The 2026 Santa’s Sleigh 5k & Half is a chip-timed running event on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path in Washington, D.C., with a virtual race option and provisions for walkers and strollers.
- 5k: out-and-back on the C&O Canal path from Fletcher’s Boathouse.
- Half marathon: out-and-back on the C&O Canal, starts and ends in Georgetown.
Both courses run on a light gravel trail with minimal elevation change. The half marathon course has seven water stations at approximate mile markers 1.55, 3.8, 4.3, 6.55, 8.8, 9.3 and 11.55; the 5k has one water station near mile 1.55. Gatorade is available at some stations. The half marathon carries a completion time limit of 3 hours 15 minutes.
Registered participants receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. The event benefits Team RWB DC. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age groups; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group prizes. T-shirt guarantees apply to registrations completed by December 9; additional shirts are available after that on a first-come, first-served basis.
Packet pickup is available at Road Runner Sports (1101 S. Joyce St., Suite B-23, Arlington, VA) and at the event. Live results are posted on Athlinks and via an on-site QR code. The organizer does not allow unauthorized runners and may remove or disqualify violators. Officials may delay, change, or cancel the event for weather and will notify registered participants.
