Event Overview
The Sand Dancer Race Series 2026 is a multi-race event taking place in South Shields. It consists of separate runs for three age categories: a minor race for ages 2-11, a junior race for ages 12 and over, and a senior 10km race for ages 16 and over.
Race Details
- Minor race: For ages 2-11.
- Junior race: For ages 12 and over.
- Senior race: A 10km multi-terrain course for ages 16 and over.
The senior race begins outside the Sand Dancer pub on the promenade, a short walk from the main venue. The junior and minor races start slightly earlier.
Registration and Logistics
Race numbers for all categories are collected on the day from Gypsies Green Stadium from 9:00 AM. Limited on-the-day registration is also available at the same location until 10:00 AM.
Fees for on-the-day entry are £5 for the minor and junior races, £23 for affiliated runners in the senior 10km race, and £25 for unaffiliated runners in the senior race.
Participant Information
All finishers receive a medal and refreshments. Participants in the senior race also receive a running buff. The senior 10km race offers cash prizes for the top three finishers and for age category winners.
Parking is available at the South Promenade Car Park next to the Sand Dancer pub, which is pay and display.
Important Notes
The course is described as unsuitable for competitors in wheelchairs or visually impaired runners. In accordance with UK Athletics rules, traditional headphones are not permitted, but bone-conducting devices are allowed. There are no refunds or deferrals if an entrant cannot participate or if the event is cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
