Event Overview
The Sunderland City Runs take place in the city centre of Sunderland, with the start and finish area located at Keel Square. The event typically attracts approximately 5,000 participants across multiple distances and features courses that lead through the city streets and along the sea front. The routes are entirely traffic-free and provide views of the area's bridges.
Distances and Course
Participants can choose from three main distances:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile race for participants aged 17 and older.
- 10k: A 10-kilometer race for participants aged 15 and older.
- 5k: A 5-kilometer race for participants aged 11 and older.
The courses are designed for both first-time and experienced runners. Electronic chip timing is used for all distances to provide accurate results.
Logistics and Facilities
Registration includes a medal and a goody bag for all finishers. A secure baggage drop is available at the event site. Race numbers and timing chips are posted to residents in the United Kingdom following registration, while overseas participants collect their packs at the venue.
There are several car parks located in the city centre, though visitors are encouraged to use public transport due to road closures. The event accommodates visually impaired entrants with guide runners and provides specific guidelines for assisted and self-propelled wheelchair participants. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as winners in the V40, V50, and V60 categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
