Event overview
SG Petch Sunderland City Runs takes place in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May 2026. The event is a closed-road running event that uses city streets and the seafront, with the Saturday evening 5K routed over the Keel Crossing footbridge. The first Sunderland City 10K was held in 2011 with just over 1,500 participants; in 2025 the event welcomed around 5,000 participants. The organiser provides a traffic-free course, route support and volunteers, secure baggage drop, electronic chip timing, and city-centre parking. Prizes are offered for the top three male and female finishers and for first V40, V50 and V60. All finishers receive a medal and a goody bag.
Race distances and entry
- 5K - Saturday evening; minimum age 11; typical fee £17.
- 10K - Sunday; described as flat and fast; minimum age 15; fee £27-29.
- Half Marathon - Sunday; minimum age 17; fee £37-39.
- Active Sunderland BIG 3K - Sunday; organised by Sunderland City Council; fee £7.50-12.50.
