About the race
NewcastleGateshead presents a road closed running event on 2 May 2027 offering multiple distances and a stadium finish at Gateshead International Stadium. The course passes prominent riverside landmarks in Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne, including the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Tyne Bridge and Swing Bridge, with running on traffic-free roads and distance flags marking each kilometre.
The event includes the following race distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- Junior Races
Entrants receive a unique themed medal, chip timed results, post-race goodies and free race photos. Friendly marshals will guide and cheer on the route and a serviced event village will offer food and drink options plus free partner refreshments at the finish. The course concludes by running around the track inside Gateshead International Stadium, an IAAF standard athletics venue.
The event supports the Bubble Foundation, the designated charity for 2027, which assists children with life-threatening immune conditions on Ward 3 at the Great North Children’s Hospital. Due to road closures there is a six hour cut off for the course. Ticket phases are listed with closing dates for early and standard entries.
