About the race
The Salute the Troops 5k and 10k is a community road race held at the Glenn Dale Community Center in Glenn Dale, Maryland. Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series and toward the Fall Series. A virtual race option is available.
The course is paved and mostly flat with a slight decline on the way out. It follows a straight out-and-back layout:
- 5 km out and back once.
- 10 km out and back twice.
Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical (DriFit) event shirt, and chip timing. T-shirt sizes are guaranteed for registrations completed before October 28; extra shirts for later registrants are limited. Race day registration is available but t-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for day-of signups.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place male and female in the age divisions 19 & under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+. Top-three overall finishers are not eligible to also win their age groups.
Water stations are placed at roughly mile markers 1.55 on the 5k and at approximately 1.55, 3.1 and 4.65 on the 10k; Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are located inside the community center. Live results are posted online and final results with series points are published after the event.
Registration fees vary by distance and date; early and late pricing applies and fees increase on race morning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
