Laufvergnügen
Laufvergnügen is a German fun run held on the C&O Canal towpath in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The event starts and finishes at Fletcher’s Cove and offers timed results and measured courses.
The event includes these distances:
- Half Marathon A flat, measured 13.1 mile course finishing at the Oktoberfest.
- 10K The most popular distance, long enough to feel accomplished.
- 5K Suited to families and walkers, no cutoff.
Every entry includes a race shirt, a finisher medal, and food at the finish without vouchers. The Oktoberfest spread features bratwurst, warm soft pretzels, handmade mustard, sauerkraut, fresh buns, and near beer due to National Park Service rules.
There is a costume contest with a prize. Awards go to the top three men and top three women in each distance. All registrants are entered in a raffle drawn live on social media; past raffle prizes have included a GPS watch, free entries to future events, and gear.
Volunteering and referrals can reduce entry cost: recruiting a volunteer can trigger a half refund after the volunteer completes the shift, and referring five friends can result in a refund of the registrant entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
