Steall Ultra 50K
The Steall Ultra is a mountain trail race of approximately 47 km with about 3,100 m of ascent. The route traverses the full length of the Mamores ridge and links five Munro summits, starting from Kinlochleven and finishing at Nevis Range. The course runs over a mix of forestry tracks, technical rocky sections, mountain trails and paths, including climbs to Sgòr Eilde Beag and Mullach nan Coirean, a descent into Glen Nevis, a passage beneath Ben Nevis’ north face, and a final descent through Leanachan Forest onto the Blue Doon trail.
The course is fully waymarked and marshalled. Runners must follow the established path without deviations; failure to observe route rules can lead to disqualification. Navigation experience is desirable but not essential; participants should carry a secondary navigation system such as map and compass, a charged phone with mapping software, or a GPS device. A GPS tracker is issued at registration and must remain attached for safety.
There is one main aid station at about 31 km in Glen Nevis offering water, isotonic drinks, sandwiches, traybakes and sweets with vegan and gluten free options, plus toilets. Participants have 14 hours to complete the course and on-course cut offs apply. Mandatory kit is required and an exceptional weather kit may be requested. Minimum age is 18. Entry fees range from £100 to £160. The race awards winners trophies and a Salomon prize fund, and it carries UTMB and 3 ITRA points.
