Ben Nevis Race - Saturday 5 September 2026
The Ben Nevis Race is an annual mountain running event held at New Town Park, Claggan, Fort William, on the first Saturday in September. The course runs from the foot of the mountain to the summit of the highest mountain in the UK and then returns to the start.
Entry is managed by a pre selection list. Invitations are issued to a maximum of 600 entrants. Entries open and close on specified dates and different entry fees apply for Scottish Athletics members and non members. Registration on race day takes place from 9.00 am, and competitors must present their Entry Invitation Receipt to collect race packs and bib numbers. Competitors who have opted for a t shirt will receive it at registration.
Eligibility requires participants to be at least 18 years of age on 1 January 2026 and to be a member of a bona fide athletics or running club. Entrants must have completed a minimum of three Category AM hill races within the last five years. Exemptions will be granted for completion of the Ben Nevis Race in 3 hours 30 minutes or less within the past five years, and other exemption requests from similar mountain or endurance events may be considered with supporting evidence. No name or number substitutions are permitted and there are no refunds for cancelled entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
