Ben Nevis Race
The Ben Nevis Race is an annual mountain running event held in Fort William. The course starts at the foot of the highest mountain in the UK at New Town Park, Claggan. Participants run to the summit of Ben Nevis and return to the starting point. The event is scheduled for the first Saturday in September.
There is an entry limit of 600 runners. Participation is restricted to individuals who are at least 18 years old on the first day of the race year. This event is not open to unattached runners; all participants must be members of an established athletics or running club.
The race has specific experience requirements for entry. Applicants must have completed at least three Category AM hill races within the previous five years. Alternatively, a runner may be exempted from this rule if they have finished the Ben Nevis Race in under 3 hours and 30 minutes within the last five years, or if they have completed a comparable mountain or endurance running event in the same timeframe.
Registration takes place at the race venue on the morning of the event. Runners are required to present their entry invitation receipt to collect their race packs and bib numbers. The event organizers do not allow name or number substitutions. There is a registration fee for participants, with a discount available for members of Scottish Athletics.
