Ben Nevis Race
The Ben Nevis Race is an annual mountain running event held in Fort William. Participants run from the foot of the highest mountain in the United Kingdom to the summit and back down again. The event begins and ends at New Town Park in Claggan.
This competition is restricted to experienced hill runners. Participants must be at least 18 years old on 1st January of the race year and must be members of a recognized athletics or running club. Unattached runners are not permitted to enter. To qualify, runners must have successfully completed at least three Category AM hill races within the previous five years. Alternatively, an exemption may be granted if a runner has finished the Ben Nevis Race in 3 hours 30 minutes or less during the last five years.
The race has a strict entry limit of 600 competitors. Registration takes place on the morning of the event at the race venue, where participants collect their race packs and bib numbers. Runners have the option to receive a commemorative t-shirt during the registration process.
The event is organized by the Ben Nevis Race Association and takes place on the first Saturday of September. The course involves significant elevation as it reaches the top of the mountain peak before the return descent to the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
