Ben Nevis Race

The Ben Nevis Race is an annual mountain running event that goes from the foot of the highest mountain in the UK to the summit and back. The race is based at New Town Park, Claggan, Fort William, and is held on the first Saturday in September; the 2026 edition is on 5 September 2026. Entry is limited to 600 competitors.

Eligibility requires competitors to be at least 18 years of age on 1st January in the year of the race and to be a member of a bona fide athletics or running club; unattached runners are not permitted. Entrants must have completed a minimum of three Category AM hill races within the last five years. Exemptions are available for those who completed the Ben Nevis Race in 3 hours 30 minutes or less in the past five years, and other exemption requests for similar mountain or endurance events may be considered with supporting evidence.

The organiser runs a pre-selection and invitation process for places; invited entrants have a limited period to accept and confirm payment before places are offered to the next person on the waiting list. Competitors must present their Entry Invitation Receipt at registration to collect race packs and bib numbers. A race t-shirt is provided at registration for those who selected one.

Entry fees listed for this event are £38 for Scottish Athletics members and £40 for non members. There are no refunds for entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
