Ben Nevis Race

The Ben Nevis Race is an annual event held on the first Saturday in September. The 2026 race takes place on Saturday 5th September from New Town Park in Claggan, Fort William. Participants run from the foot to the top of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, and back down.

Entry Requirements

Participants must be at least 18 years old on 1st January 2026. They must be members of a bona fide Athletics or Running Club; unattached runners are not allowed. Runners need to have completed a minimum of three Category AM Hill races within the last five years. Exemptions are granted for those who have finished the Ben Nevis Race in 3 hours 30 minutes or less in the past five years, or for similar mountain endurance events.

Entry Process

Entries open on Saturday 21st March 2026 at 18:00 and close on Friday 10th July 2026 at 12:00. The entry limit is 600 participants. Entry fees are £38.00 for Scottish Athletics members and £40.00 for non-members. Entry is via a pre-selection list; invitations are sent to 600 entrants, who have one week to accept.

Registration

Registration is from 9.00 am on race day. Competitors must bring their Entry Invitation Receipt to collect their race pack, bib number, and other materials. A t-shirt is provided at registration if chosen during entry.
