WEEKEND 9

Weekend 9 is a single day route event on 23 May 2026 in the Howgill Fells. The route is approximately 25 km long and includes about 1500 m of ascent. The course is an out and back route that follows the original 23 Special Air Service final test route known as Weekend 9.

The route is fully way marked so no navigation is required. A GPX file will be available for download. Terrain includes fell land, tracks and footpaths. Competitors pass a number of manned checkpoints; these are for welfare checks only and are not supplied with food. Participants are expected to be self sufficient. There are cut off times which are described as generous.

Three entry categories are offered: load bearing for those carrying weight, runner or clean fatigue for those anticipating running without load, and walker or unloaded for those anticipating walking without load. Minimum loaded requirements are specified by age and sex: under 50 men 35 lb plus food and water, under 50 women 30 lb plus food and water, over 50 men 25 lb plus food and water, over 50 women 20 lb plus food and water. Mandatory mountain safety kit is required for unloaded entries and will be checked at registration.

The event has an entry fee of £58, a minimum age of 18, prizes for first male and first female in each category, a finishers patch and an end of event pint at the pub. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
