WEEKEND 9
WEEKEND 9 is an outdoor challenge held on Saturday 23 May 2026 in the Howgill Fells. The course is an out-and-back route following the original 23 Special Air Service final test route known as "Weekend 9." The route covers roughly 25 km and includes about 1500 m of ascent.
The route is fully way marked and a GPX file will be available. Terrain includes fell land, tracks and footpaths. Competitors pass a number of manned checkpoints; these are for welfare checks and do not provide food or snack stations. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient.
Three entry categories are offered: load bearing, runner/clean fatigue and walker/unloaded. The load bearing category specifies minimum carried weight by age and sex, for example under 50s are required to carry around 35 lb plus food and water for men and 30 lb plus food and water for women. Runner/clean fatigue and walker/unloaded categories require mandatory mountain safety kit which will be checked at registration. A full kit list is provided by the organiser.
Entries opened on 1 September 2025 and close on 19 May 2026. Entry fee is £58.00 and entries recorded so far number 66. Prizes are offered for first male and first female in each category. Finishers receive a patch and an end of race pint at the pub. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
