Pete Bland 50th Kentmere Horseshoe
The event is a medium Lakeland fell race on the grassy Eastern fells, run as a clockwise horseshoe of the Kentmere Valley. The course covers 12.3 miles (about 19.8 km) with approximately 3300 ft (about 1006 m) of ascent and includes the summits of Ill Bell, High Street and Kentmere Pike. The route features ridge running and is flagged and marshalled from Hallow Bank back to the finish at Kentmere Village Hall.
The race is held under FRA competition rules and enforces minimum kit requirements. Competitors should be prepared to carry whole body waterproof cover, map and compass suitable for navigation, whistle, hat and gloves, and emergency food. Minimum age for entry is 18. Cutoffs apply at two of three checkpoints: Ill Bell - 1 hour 20 minutes, High Street - 2 hours 20 minutes; there is no cutoff at Kentmere Pike. Checkpoint marshals will advise runners who miss a cutoff and those competitors must report to the finish. Parking is provided at the Hollingsworth & Vose factory in the Kentmere Valley for a small charge. Refreshments are available in Kentmere Village Hall and a mobile Pete Bland Sports shop will be present. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
