RWJBarnabas Health Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk : 10th Anniversary
The event marks the 10th anniversary of the Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk. It features a competitive live 5K race held on a USATF-certified course that runs down Cherry Lane and around the reservoir at South Mountain Recreation Complex, and a wellness walk on the same scenic course.
Registered participants receive on-site benefits tied to the event day, including free admission to the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, which is adjacent to the race course. T-shirts and participation medals will be distributed to a limited number of registered runners and walkers; size requests are not guaranteed. All participants receive a free photo provided by RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils.
A virtual 5K option runs from October 1 to November 1, 2026, and uses the RunGo app. Virtual participants receive a co-branded item, are eligible for prizes, and may join a Virtual Cumulative Challenge that lets them log activity toward a total of 3.1 miles over the month. Virtual participants also receive free zoo admission from November 2 to December 30, 2026. Exclusive audio messages from New Jersey Devils players and RWJBarnabas Health patients are available through the RunGo app.
A separate 5K Skate is organized at Codey Arena in West Orange. That skate is open only to New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club members and organizations affiliated with Codey Arena; fundraising and team-registration provisions apply for eligibility for medals and giveaways.
