RWJBarnabas Health Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk : 10th Anniversary
The event marks the 10th anniversary of the Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk. It includes a live competitive 5K race held on a USATF-Certified course that runs down Cherry Lane and around the reservoir at South Mountain Recreation Complex, and a wellness walk on the same course. Post-race festivities and family-friendly activities are planned at Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, which is adjacent to the race course. Registered participants receive free zoo admission on the day of the live event.
A virtual 5K option runs from October 1 to November 1, 2026, using the RunGo App. Virtual participants may choose a timed option for leaderboard placement and prizes, or join the Virtual Cumulative Challenge to log multiple sessions toward a total of 3.1 miles. Virtual entries receive a co-branded item and are eligible for prizes, and virtual participants receive free zoo admission from November 2 to December 30, 2026.
A separate 5K Skate is offered in conjunction with the New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club at Codey Arena. The skate is open only to club members and organizations affiliated with Codey Arena; team-supplied registration codes apply. Players who fundraise at least $25 are eligible for medals, giveaways, and additional prizes.
Registration details vary by event. For the live run, walk, and virtual race registration opens April 2, 2026 and closes April 15, 2026. Skate registration opens September 15, 2026 and closes October 2, 2026. Registration fees are listed for each event in the organizer information. T-shirts and participation medals will be distributed to the first 2,000 registered runners and walkers; T-shirt size requests are not guaranteed.
