Running with the Big Dogs 5k Run and 2 mile Dog Stroll
Running with the Big Dogs is a community running and walking event held in Porter, Indiana at 500 Ackerman Drive on September 13, 2026. The event offers both a timed 5k run and a separate 2 mile dog stroll.
Participants may bring dogs under the following conditions: dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 ft, have a current rabies inoculation, and puppies six months or younger or female dogs in heat are not permitted. Dogs with unruly or hazardous behavior will be asked to leave. Organizers urge consultation with a veterinarian regarding a pet’s fitness to participate.
Registration includes a cotton t shirt for each registered participant; the design will be posted closer to the event. All dogs that complete their walk or run receive a medal. A course map is provided for the route.
The event is organized as part of the Crazy Legs Race Series, which develops and manages non pavement and pavement races in Northwest Indiana, with events held in parks or public areas across Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. Part of the event proceeds will be donated to Humane Indiana.
