Event Overview
The Popcorn Panic is a running event in its 48th year, held in Valparaiso, Indiana. It is described as a community tradition with over 1,200 participants annually. The event takes place on a route through tree-lined city streets.
Distances
The event offers two distances:
- 5 Mile Run
- 5K Run/Walk
Registration and Logistics
The standard registration fee is $35. Registering by August 14 guarantees a specific shirt size, with an option to forgo the shirt for a $5 discount. The fee increases to $40 after August 17, with same-day registration available for $45.
Packet pick-up is available in the days before the race at Extra Mile Fitness Company and at Butterfield Pavilion. Onsite pick-up begins on race morning.
Awards and Team Competition
Participants can take part individually or in teams. Teams require at least four finishers to be eligible for team awards, which are calculated based on the combined placement of the top four team members. Team members can also win individual awards.
The male and female winners of the 5-mile race receive a champion crown, a ride in the Popcorn Fest parade, two drink tickets for the Popcorn Festival, and a $250 gift card. Overall, masters, and age group awards are also presented across numerous categories, with a policy preventing duplication of awards.
