Popcorn Panic 5M Run and 5K Run/Walk
The Popcorn Panic is a long-standing community event held annually in Valparaiso, Indiana. Now in its 48th year, the race attracts over 1,200 participants who navigate through the city streets. The event offers two primary distances and paths for participants:
- 5 Miles
- 5K Run/Walk
Participants can enter as individuals or form teams. For the team competition, a minimum of four finishers is required to be eligible for awards, with winners determined by the combined overall placement of the top four members. The 5K event is designed as a run or walk, though the walking portion is non-competitive.
The course route features tree-lined streets starting from the downtown area. Course safety regulations prohibit pets, skateboards, in-line skates, and bicycles. Wheelchair participants are welcome to take part in the event. Strollers are permitted under the condition that they start at the rear of the field.
Recognition is provided for top finishers, including overall male and female winners, masters categories, and various age groups ranging from 10 and under to 80 and over. Specific prizes for the 5-mile champions include a gift card to a local fitness shop and participation in the Popcorn Fest Parade. Registration includes an optional event shirt for those who sign up before the mid-August deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
