Event Overview
Running Up for Air Malans Peak is a winter endurance event taking place on Malans Peak on the east bench of Ogden City. It is part of the Up For Air Series, which aims to support air quality solutions. Proceeds are directed to selected non-profit organizations working on air quality. The event uses its platform to share science-based information about healthy air and operates with a minimal environmental footprint.
Race Format
The event is a timed challenge where participants complete laps on a set course. Runners can register for 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour individual or team relay events. Participants run as many laps as possible within their chosen time limit.
Course Details
Each lap starts and finishes at the 29th Street Trailhead at 29th Street and Buchanan Avenue in Ogden. The route climbs approximately 2,300 feet to the top of Malans Peak, reaching an elevation of 6,904 feet. The total distance per lap is six miles. The first section is a gradual climb before entering Taylor Canyon, followed by a steep two-mile ascent. Given the February date, the route is typically snow-covered and can involve harsh winter mountain conditions. Spikes or shoe screws are recommended for icy sections.
Practical Information
Parking is available at the trailhead, and additional parking is noted at a church on 27th and Tyler Avenue. Carpooling is encouraged. No shuttle service is provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
