Running Scared 5K/13K - Colorado Springs
The Running Scared event at Cottonwood Creek Park in Colorado Springs offers two in-person race distances and a combined option. The event has a Halloween theme and costumes are encouraged. All participants receive a long-sleeve race shirt and a custom finisher medal.
The course uses the Bonanza Trail within the park and is described as family and spectator friendly. The 5K course is noted as very flat, providing an opportunity for personal best times. The event includes awards for competitive finishers: Top Three male and female overall in both distances, Top Three in Masters, Grand Masters, and Senior Masters overall categories, and top three in each five-year age group for both distances. Special recognition is given to the top three male and female finishers of the combined entry.
The 2026 charity partner is Ava's Avengers, an organization that raises awareness and support to reduce socioeconomic burdens on families, promote disease education, and build community resilience.
A virtual race option is available for remote participation; virtual participants can run locally, submit results online, and have results posted after the event date.
