Turkey Trot Predict : Memorial Park, Colorado Springs
The event is a 5K prediction run held at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. It uses a staggered start based on each runner's predicted finish time. Before the race, each participant submits a predicted 5K finish time. A central countdown clock is set to a fixed value and counts down; runners begin when the clock reaches their predicted time. Slower predicted times start earlier and faster predicted times start later. Once the last runner begins, the clock is covered so finishers cannot see the time as they approach the line. Runners are not allowed to wear watches or carry phones or other timekeeping devices.
The course is flat and runs on pavement and cement sidewalks at about 6,100 feet elevation. The route is roughly a figure 8 with one loop around the criterium bike course and two loops around Prospect Lake. Registration is online only and there is no race day registration; registration closes at 5:00pm the day before the event. Entry fees are free for PPRR/SCR members and $5 for non-members plus a $2 RunSignup fee.
Event rules prohibit animals, baby joggers or strollers, earbuds or headphones, and bikes or trikes. Awards go to the six runners who finish closest to their predicted time and to the runner who is furthest from their prediction. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
