Turkey Trot Predict 5K

The Turkey Trot Predict is a specialized 5K running event held at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. This race utilizes a prediction format with a staggered start rather than a traditional mass start. Participants submit an estimated finish time during registration. The event clock is set to the slowest predicted time and counts down; runners begin their race when the clock displays their specific prediction.

The course is located at an elevation of approximately 6,100 feet and consists of flat terrain on pavement and cement sidewalks. The route follows a figure 8 pattern, utilizing a criterium bike course and two loops around Prospect Lake.

Strict rules are in place to maintain the integrity of the prediction format. Runners are prohibited from wearing watches or carrying phones, earbuds, headphones, or any other time-keeping devices. Additionally, animals, baby joggers, strollers, and bicycles are not permitted on the course.

The race concludes with a unique awards structure based on accuracy rather than speed. The six participants who finish closest to their predicted times are awarded turkeys. Conversely, the individual whose actual time is furthest from their prediction receives a Cornish game hen.
