Running of the Bears 5K
The Running of the Bears is a 5 km race held at Clark's Bears in Lincoln, New Hampshire. The event follows a 3.1 mile route that begins and ends inside the park at Merlin's Mystical Mansion. Participants follow a course that travels north to the Anaconda Escape, through the parking areas, and onto local roads including Route 112 and Linwood Drive before returning to the park.
A unique requirement for this event is that every runner or walker must carry a teddy bear to qualify. Bears are available for purchase on site for those who do not bring their own. The event is open to various age groups, with specific registration tiers for participants aged 4-10 and those 11 and older. Strollers are permitted on the course but are required to line up at the back of the starting group.
Athletic amenities and race features include:
- 5 km (3.1 miles)
- One water station located near the midpoint of the course.
- Electronic timing with results available for download.
- Free parking at the north end of the Main Parking lot.
- Restroom facilities located at the Anaconda Escape and Riverbank areas.
The race takes place rain or shine. Included with registration is a technical fabric T-shirt and a tote bag containing bottled water. Awards are presented at the Picnic Pavilion to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top finishers in specific age categories. Additional awards are given for categories such as the biggest bear and best costume. All proceeds from the event benefit the Linwood Ambulance Service.
