Loon Mountain Race

The Loon Mountain Race is known as one of the country's toughest mountain races. A defining feature of the course is the kilometer ascent of North Peak via a black diamond ski trail called Upper Walking Boss. This section, known as 'The Boss,' consists of a grassy slope with gradients that exceed 40%.

The event features three race categories: Loon Mountain Women, Loon Mountain Men, and a U20 Race for participants under 20 years old on race day. The race is held at Loon Mountain Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire.

A separate timed challenge, the Upper Walking Boss Challenge, awards prize money. Timing mats are placed at the bottom and top of the Upper Walking Boss climb, with cash prizes for the three fastest times among men and women.

On race day, participant check-in and bib pickup begin at 6:00 AM at the Governor Adams Lodge. There is no day-of registration. An early bib pickup is available the day before the race at the Octagon Lodge. Spectators can use the Gondola, which starts running at 7:30 AM.

Post-race, an awards ceremony and beer garden are held at the Octagon Lodge. Participants can descend the mountain via the Gondola or by running down a marked 1.5-mile service road. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
