Loon Mountain Race : Lincoln, New Hampshire
The Loon Mountain Race is a mountain trail event that finishes at the North Peak summit of Loon Mountain Resort. The course runs for approximately six miles and lists about 3,066 feet of elevation gain. Surface types include trail, cat track, and grassy ski slopes.
The route begins on service-style cat track and moves onto technical single track before reaching ski-slope terrain near the halfway point where grades reach 15 to 20 percent. A notable section called Upper Walking Boss is roughly one kilometer long and reaches grades of about 40 percent. The course finishes at the summit gondola station.
The event provides two fluid aid stations, plus fluids at the finish area and at Governor Adams Lodge. There is a course cutoff at 5.1 miles at the top of Bear Claw Extension; runners not past that point will be redirected to return by gondola. All participants must sign the Loon Mountain waiver form before participating. Registration information lists a fee of $70 and specifies no day-of registration.
The race is part of the USATF-New England mountain running circuit and the Delta Dental Challenge. Cash prizes exceed $20,000 overall; a separate Upper Walking Boss prize purse of $1,500 will be awarded to top performances on that section, with specified payouts for the fastest times.
