Loon Mountain Race : Lincoln, New Hampshire

The Loon Mountain Race is an uphill mountain trail event that finishes at the summit North Peak. The course is roughly six miles long and gains about 3,066 ft in elevation. It runs over a mix of dirt trail, cat track, and grassy ski slopes and includes technical singletrack sections.

The route features steep grades, with an average grade near 10 percent and sections that reach about 40 percent. A notable section called Upper Walking Boss is roughly one kilometer long and follows a black-diamond ski slope; timing mats are placed at the bottom of Upper Walking Boss and at the finish.

The event provides two fluid aid stations, with additional fluids available at the finish area and at Governor Adams Lodge. Organizers note typical July temperatures around 77 F. All participants must complete the Loon Mountain waiver form; completing it before arriving is suggested to reduce wait times.

Prizes include over $20,000 in cash awards overall and a specific Upper Walking Boss premie of $1,500 distributed to the top three men and top three women on that section (1st $400, 2nd $250, 3rd $100). The race is part of the USATF-New England Mountain Running Circuit and the Delta Dental Mountain Challenge. Registration fee is listed as $70 and day-of registration is not available.
