Running for Water for Africa
The event is the 15th edition held at Walnut Beach Pavilion in Milford, Connecticut, in October. It includes a computer timed 5K run or walk, an untimed one mile walk along the boardwalk with water views, and a free kids run of about 1/10 mile for children 12 and under. Participants in the 5K must complete the entire course and use their bib for accurate results; finishing without completing the route can corrupt results.
Distances offered:
- 5K run or walk, computer timed, awards for overall and age groups
- One mile walk, untimed, no awards
- Kids 1 10 mile fun run, free for 12 and under
The course is mostly flat with one minor incline near the beginning and starts and finishes near the beach. There is parking in the beach parking lot. Snacks and water are provided after the events. A gift certificate raffle featuring local restaurants will be held.
Registration fees vary by age and date with lower pre-registration rates and higher race day rates. Pre-registration by late September guarantees shirt size; after that shirts are available as supplies allow. Funds raised support drilling a well and building a water delivery system for a Rwimi secondary school. Contributions are tax deductible and the organization is approved as a 501(c)(3).
