Event Overview
The Running for Water for Africa 5K is a fundraising running and walking event in its 15th edition, held on a Saturday in October. The event takes place at the Walnut Beach Pavilion in Milford, Connecticut.
Events and Course
The event offers three activities:
- A timed 5K (3.1 miles) run or walk.
- An untimed one-mile walk.
- A free kids fun run (approximately 1/10 mile) for participants 12 and under.
The 5K and one-mile walk start together. The 5K course features flat, scenic roads with one minor incline near the start and a finish near the beach. There is one water stop on the 5K route. The kids run is a separate, short event.
Registration and Awards
Registration is online. Fees for the 5K and one-mile walk vary by age and registration date. The kids run is free. A t-shirt is offered with a size deadline in September.
Awards are given for the 5K event to the overall male and female winners and for multiple age groups. There are no awards for the one-mile walk. A gift certificate raffle featuring local restaurants is also held.
Charitable Purpose
The event raises funds for a charitable organization. The specific project for this year is to drill a new well and construct a water delivery system for the Rwimi secondary school in Africa, where students currently fetch water from a dangerous stream. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3), making contributions tax-deductible.
Venue and Logistics
The event is held at the Walnut Beach Pavilion. Plentiful parking is available in the beach parking lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
