Running for Water for Africa takes place on October 17, 2026 at the Walnut Beach Pavilion, 85 Viscount Dr, Milford, CT. The event includes multiple distances and is held outdoors near the beach with scenic water views.
Distances
- 5K run or walk, computer timed, awards for overall and age groups
- One mile untimed walk along the boardwalk, no awards
- Kids run of about 200 yards, free for ages 12 and under, finisher's award
The 5K course uses flat scenic roads with one minor incline near the start. The start and finish are located close to the beach. Participants in the timed 5K must complete the entire course to be scored and should use only their issued bib to avoid corrupting results. One mile walkers will not cross the 5K finish line. Pre-registered participants who register by September 20 are guaranteed their shirt size; shirts after that date are available as supplies allow. Snacks and water are provided by sponsors after the events. There is plentiful parking in the beach parking lot. A raffle of gift certificates to local restaurants is part of the event.
This year's project supports drilling a well and building a water delivery system for a Rwimi secondary school serving about 2,000 students. The school and surrounding village rely on a dangerous stream; safer water access and delivery are the stated objectives.
