About the race

Pounding the Pavement for Pink is an annual event held the first Saturday each October in Seymour that supports breast cancer awareness and honors people who have received a breast cancer diagnosis. The event combines a road race, a shorter kids run, and community participation, and has drawn large numbers of runners, walkers, and spectators in past years.

Race options include:

  • 5k Live (3.1 Miles)
  • 5k Virtual (3.1 Miles)
  • Kids Fun Run Live (~0.5 Miles)
  • Kids Fun Run Virtual (~0.5 Miles)

The 5k is a USATF certified course that begins on River Road, proceeds down Derby Avenue near the Seymour Community Center, passes under Route 8, climbs a gradual incline by the Historical Society and Library, and finishes on a long flat stretch of Cedar Street and Derby Avenue. Total ascent is approximately 170 feet. On-course water is available at approximately Mile 1 and Mile 2. Entertainment such as musicians and DJs is typically present along the route. The kids run is open to children under eight years old. Virtual participants may complete their distance anytime during the race weekend from Friday morning to Sunday evening. The event has featured more than 100 teams in past years and lists a presenting sponsor for the race. No pets are allowed on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
