30th Annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo
The 30th Annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo takes place in Royal Oak, Michigan. This local tradition allows participants to tour the zoo grounds and surrounding areas through several different event formats. The event features a competitive 5K, a non-competitive stroll, and a virtual participation option.
Participants can choose from the following distances and activities:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1.25-mile Fun Walk
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
The 5K course begins on the 10 Mile Service Drive and proceeds through the neighboring area of Huntington Woods before finishing inside the Detroit Zoo in front of the Holtzman Wildlife Foundation Red Panda Forest. The 1.25-mile Fun Walk is held entirely within the zoo at a leisurely pace and includes educational activities and treat stations along the path.
All registered participants receive a commemorative 30th anniversary medal and T-shirt. Entry also provides access to the post-race celebration at the Main Picnic Grove and admission to the Detroit Zoo for the remainder of the day, including the Fred and Barbara Erb Discovery Trails. Strollers are permitted for the Fun Walk and at the back of the 5K start. Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, and pets are not permitted on the course.
Proceeds from the event support the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex, which provides medical care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
