About the race
Run the Runway at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Illinois is staged on the airport's main runways and taxiways. The event supports local aviation scholarships; registrations are final as the event is a fundraiser and will not be rescheduled in the event of cancellation.
After races there are podium awards, music, food, giveaways and kids' activities. Princess and character appearances are scheduled during the morning. Strollers and wagons are welcome; pets are not allowed.
Distances and formats include:
- 5K USATF certified and chip timed.
- 1 Mile Walk flat course, open to all ages.
- Kids Dash ages 2 to 9 with two distances.
- Virtual 5K run or walk remotely on race morning.
Additional details: the 5K is a flat single loop with the same start and finish line. The Kids Dash offers a 100 yard dash for ages 5 and under and a 1/4 mile route for ages 2 to 9; children aged 10 and up are directed to the 1 Mile Walk or 5K. Virtual participants receive an event packet mailed in mid June that includes a participation medal; virtual entries do not qualify for top finisher pins. Listed registration fees are $35 for the 5K and 1 Mile Walk, $20 for the Kids Dash, and $40 for the virtual 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
