Run for the Zoo 2026

Run for the Zoo returns for its 48th year at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. This annual event raises funds to support zoo operations, including animal care, conservation work, and scientific research. The race course is flat and scenic, winding through and around the zoo grounds. Participants pass by zoo habitats, protected natural areas, and view the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan.

Individuals can choose from several participation options:

  • 10K Run
  • 5K Run
  • 5K Walk (Untimed)
  • Wildlife Warrior (Combined 5K and 10K)
  • Kids' Course (Obstacle course for children ages 3-8)
  • Virtual Races (5K, 10K, or Wildlife Warrior)

Those participating in the Wildlife Warrior challenge must maintain a pace faster than 10 minutes per mile to complete both distances. The Kids' Course features climbing and crawling through obstacles and includes a specific medal for finishers.

All participants receive a tech-blend shirt with a 2026 animal theme, a finisher medal, and a digital swag bag. Registration also includes access to a post-race party. The funds generated from the event help maintain the zoo as a free destination for the public. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
