Event Overview
The Run for the Dogs 5k is a themed running event supporting animal charities. It takes place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Waubonsie Lake Park in Aurora, Illinois.
Course and Logistics
The event features a 5k run/walk course with scenic views of the park. Participants are permitted to run or walk with a leashed pet. Due to popularity, the event offers three separate start times. The race is professionally timed and scored by J3 Timing, with live results posted online. Parking is available on-site, and carpooling is suggested.
Registration and Amenities
Registration includes a short-sleeve t-shirt, a finisher medal for humans, a dog medal charm, a chip-timed race bib, and finish line treats for dogs. Age group awards are given for top finishers, with medals available for pickup at the registration table on the event day. There is no award ceremony. Packet pickup begins on race morning. Free race photos are provided for download after the event.
Charity Partner
The event's charity partner is Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment (A.D.O.P.T.), a no-kill animal shelter. The race supports its mission to find permanent homes for pets and promote humane treatment through education.
Additional Notes
