Rothrock by UTMB
Rothrock by UTMB takes place in the central Pennsylvania wilds, centered around the natural landscapes of State College and the surrounding Happy Valley region. The event is characterized by its location within the Rothrock State Forest, featuring a course carved through sandstone ridges, fern-covered valleys, and rhododendron tunnels. Runners experience a variety of terrain including shaded forests, towering cliffs, and serene streams.
The race is held during the spring season when the local foliage is lush and mountain laurels are in bloom. The event is designed to accommodate participants of various abilities through two distinct race distances:
- 50K: A course covering 54.1 km with an elevation gain of 1756 m.
- 25K: A course covering 26.9 km with an elevation gain of 1188 m.
The event is part of the UTMB World Series, and participants have the opportunity to earn Running Stones upon completion of their respective races. Beyond the competition, the event emphasizes community spirit and the historic charm of the local area. The organization also participates in the UTMB Cares program, which focuses on environmental care and supporting local nonprofit initiatives through grant funding and volunteer efforts.
