The Raven Trail Races
The Raven Trail Races take place in the Seven Mountains area of Bald Eagle State Forest, Pennsylvania. Inspired by the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe, the event features a course layout through Poe Valley characterized by dense forests, dark pines, and rocky terrain. The event is organized as a non-profit, grassroots race, with proceeds used to fund college scholarships for local high school runners.
Participants can choose between two distinct distances:
- 10K: Approximately 6.4 miles with 1,500 feet of elevation gain.
- Half Marathon: Approximately 13.6 miles with 2,900 feet of elevation gain.
The course utilizes a mix of rugged singletrack, steep climbs, and runnable doubletrack. Runners will encounter technical sections typical of Pennsylvania mountain trails, including stream crossings and scenic overlooks. Both race distances are part of the Rocksylvania Series.
The event provides well-stocked aid stations offering hydration and fuel, including specific endurance products. The half marathon includes three aid stations located at Dry Hollow, Penns View, and Mountain Church, while the 10K features one station at Mountain Church. After completing the course, participants receive Raven-themed finisher awards and can attend a post-race gathering featuring kettle-served ham and bean soup, with a vegetarian option available.
