Rootrock Trail Run
The Rootrock Trail Run takes place at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill, NC on October 17, 2026, and offers trail races on varied natural terrain with a start and finish in Great Meadow Park. The event is the first leg of the Rootrock Trail Races and is scheduled for the morning. It complements an afternoon mountain bike race held at the same venue.
Distances offered:
- 5K: 3.3 miles, elevation gain 222 feet
- 10K: 6.2 miles, elevation gain 438 feet
- Half Marathon: 13.1 miles, elevation gain 960 feet
Course surfaces include pavement, double-track, and extensive single track with roots and rocks. The 5K has the least technical terrain and short pavement sections. The 10K follows a one-loop route with semi-technical single track and minimal pavement. The Half Marathon is a one-loop route that adds more technical trails and steeper climbs in western sections. Technical terrain ratings are provided for each distance.
Race services and policies include chip timing, frequent aid stations approximately every 1 to 2 miles, medical support, professionally marked courses, and photo downloads after the race. Registration includes a race tee and finisher medal. A free Kids Race for Treasure is offered for children 11 and under after the main races. Awards are given to all finishers and to top overall and age group finishers. Refunds, credits, and entry transfers have defined advance notice windows and online procedures.
