Event Overview
The Rodeo Valley Trail Run takes place in the Marin Headlands, starting near Rodeo Beach and the historic Fort Cronkhite in Sausalito, California. The courses traverse the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, featuring a mix of non-technical dirt trails and fire roads. Runners encounter steep climbs and downhill sections with views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco. The local environment is home to various wildlife, including foxes, coyotes, and bobcats.
The event offers four distinct race distances:
- 8K (4.8 miles with 925' elevation gain)
- Half Marathon (13.4 miles with 2,450' elevation gain)
- 30K (18.8 miles with 3,500' elevation gain)
- 50K (30.8 miles with 5,750' elevation gain)
Logistics and Regulations
All races are chip-timed. The event follows a cupless policy, meaning no paper cups are provided at aid stations; participants must carry their own hydration vessels. Aid stations offer water, hydration mixes, fruit, and various snacks, though specific energy gels are restricted at certain locations within the National Recreation Area.
The 50K and 30K distances have an 8.5-hour time limit, and all participants must be off the course by mid-afternoon. Free parking is available in several lots and pullouts near the start area. Dogs are permitted only in the 8K race, provided they remain on a leash and start at the back of the field.
Participant Information
Registered participants receive a performance tri-blend shirt if they sign up by the designated deadline. Finishers are awarded medals, while the top three male and female runners in each distance receive custom trophies. Additionally, 50K finishers receive a branded pint glass.
