Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Fort Worth
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon: Texas Parks Edition takes place at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth. This event combines multiple running distances with a festive atmosphere inspired by Dia de los Muertos traditions. The course is primarily set on paved trails within park and green belt areas, though participants may encounter mixed surfaces such as crushed granite or dirt paths.
The event offers a variety of distances to accommodate different experience levels:
- Kids Dash: A 20-yard dash for participants aged 10 and under.
- 1 Mile Run: A non-timed event for all ages.
- 5k Run: A 3.11-mile chip-timed race.
- Quarter Marathon: A 6.55-mile chip-timed race.
- Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile chip-timed race.
- Virtual Run: A 13.1-mile remote participation option.
A key feature of the event is the pre-race costume contest where participants are encouraged to wear skeletal attire and vibrant face paint. A panel of judges evaluates entries based on creativity and authenticity before the start of the races. Along the route, aid stations are positioned to provide water and assistance to runners.
The finish line area features a race rally tent with a live DJ, snacks, and refreshments. Participants in the timed events (5k, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon) are eligible for age group awards and overall trophies. The event also offers a "Volunteer then Run" option, allowing individuals to assist with packet pickup and awards in exchange for a custom bib and shirt.
