8th Annual Rockaway Beach Triathlon and Duathlon
The Rockaway Beach Triathlon and Duathlon takes place at the Rockaway Beach Amphitheater on B95th Street in Queens, New York. This multi-sport event utilizes the Atlantic Ocean and the local concrete boardwalk for its courses. Participants can choose from several event formats:
- Triathlon: A 400 meter swim, a 12 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile run.
- Duathlon: A 3 mile run, a 12 mile bike ride, and a final 3 mile run.
- Aquabike: A combination of swimming and cycling.
- Team Relays: Options for both triathlon and duathlon distances for teams of 2 to 3 athletes.
The swim portion is conducted in the Atlantic Ocean, starting near the B91st Street beach ramp. Wetsuits are permitted but not required. The bike segment consists of two 6 mile loops on the flat boardwalk between B95th Street and B27th Street. The final run leg is held on the boardwalk, with participants heading toward B125th Street before returning to the finish line at the amphitheater.
An aid station with water is located at B115th Street. This event is not USAT sanctioned, and a racing license is not required to participate. Registration typically opens in late December. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
