Overview
Rock The Ridge is a fundraising event held in the Shawangunk Mountains of New York's Hudson Valley. The event takes place within the Mohonk Preserve, which encompasses over 8,200 acres of mountain ridges, forests, fields, and streams. Participants traverse a course consisting of well-maintained, wide carriage roads that wind through lush forests and over ridgelines.
The event is a major fundraiser for the Mohonk Preserve, supporting programs in conservation, community education, land stewardship, and visitor services. It is currently in its 13th year.
Distance Options
Participants can choose from several ways to experience the course:
- 50 mile Ultra Marathon
- 26.2 mile Trail Marathon
- Relay teams of two, three, or four people
Course Details
The event features a generous 18-hour cutoff time for the 50-mile course, making it accessible to both runners and hikers. The route is well-marked and supported by closely spaced, well-stocked aid stations staffed by volunteers. The terrain primarily utilizes the preserve's network of historic carriage roads rather than narrow single-track trails.
