Family of New Paltz 5K Turkey Trot
The Family of New Paltz Turkey Trot is a community 5K run and walk held annually on Thanksgiving morning in New Paltz, New York. The event supports Family of New Paltz’s Food Pantry and Crisis Services, a local crisis intervention center that offers a 24 hour hotline and new text line, a food pantry, counseling, support groups, and shelters for adults, adolescents, and victims of domestic violence. The 2026 race is presented by New Paltz Healthy & Nutrition Center and Kniffen Homes.
The main competition is a USATF certified 5K course with chip timing and chip timed start and finish. Photos of individual runners crossing the finish line will be available for upload at no cost through the race timing provider. The program includes a Mashed Potato Fun Run that is free for children 12 and under. Age groups are organized in ten year increments, with medals awarded for first, second, and third place in each age group and separate awards for male and female finishers.
Registration opens August 15 and closes October 31. Listed registration fees for 2026 are $20 for ages 1 to 12, $30 for ages 13 to 64, and $20 for ages 65 and up. The event location is Water Street Market, New Paltz, NY 12561. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
