Toledo’s Fourth of July Tradition

The Toledo Flags River Run is an Independence Day tradition held in the heart of Downtown Toledo along the Maumee River. This event attracts over 750 participants, including runners, walkers, and families. The race headquarters is located at Ostrich Towne in the historic Vistula neighborhood, which serves as both the starting and finishing point. The location offers access to local businesses such as coffee shops and breweries within walking distance.

The course features a variety of urban and natural sights throughout the city:

  • 4 mile run or walk

Participants cross the Cherry Street Bridge to enter International Park and continue into the Glass City Metropark. The route provides scenic views of the Maumee River and the Toledo skyline before returning across the Craig Street Bridge to the finish line. The course is stroller-friendly and open to individual participants, military units, and community organizations.

The event includes competitive elements with cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers, as well as awards for master and grand master categories. Age group winners receive shoe certificates. As part of the America 250 celebration in 2026, the race features commemorative shirts and medals. The event takes place rain or shine, and parking is available at the Vistula garage and other downtown locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
