Event overview

The Rim to River 100 is a 100-mile out-and-back ultramarathon through the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The 2026 event is scheduled for Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25. Participants have 32 hours to complete the course. All finishers within the allotted time receive a custom Rim to River 100 belt buckle and a locally hand-made finisher mug; runners finishing under 24 hours receive a special sub-24 belt buckle. Registered participants on or before September 1 are guaranteed a race shirt; later registration may not include a shirt. The race offers a lottery for 2026 entries from December 1 to December 10. Refunds are available at 100% through July 4; deferrals and partial refunds are considered case by case.

Course, support, and rules

The course begins and ends at ACE Adventure Resort and includes winding single track, rail-to-trail, dirt roads, and paved sections, passing waterfalls, whitewater, abandoned mining sites, and ghost town ruins. Course composition: 100 miles total - 84 miles trail, 6 miles dirt road, 10 miles paved. Total ascent is 12,000 ft with an equivalent descent; elevation range is 823 ft to 2,015 ft.

Crew access, drop bag service, and aid stations are limited to specified locations (examples include Concho Rim, Bike Farm, Hawks Nest, Cunard, Fayette Station, Erskine). Drop bags must be turned in by Friday, October 24. Pacers must register, be 18 or older, sign a release, wear a visible pacer bib, stay with the runner, and may join at designated points (Hawks Nest is a turnaround). The race enforces National Park Service rules on applicable sections, requires participants to carry hydration and a headlamp at night, prohibits littering, off-trail travel, and pacer muling, and reserves disqualification for rule violations.
