Rim to River 100

The Rim to River 100 is a 100-mile out-and-back ultramarathon through the New River Gorge in West Virginia. It is presented as the first and only 100-mile trail race in the state. The route starts and finishes at ACE Adventure Resort, with the first and last roughly 14 miles on resort property, and travels repeatedly from the rim of the gorge down to the banks of the New River.

The course surface is varied: approximately 84 miles of trail, 6 miles of dirt road, and 10 miles of paved road. Total ascent and descent are each about 12,000 feet, and elevation ranges from about 823 ft to 2,015 ft. The route passes waterfalls, whitewater, overlooks, and historic ruins including ghost towns, old cemeteries, and abandoned mine shafts. Participants are given 32 hours to complete the course; finishers within the allotted time receive a custom belt buckle and a locally made finisher mug, with a special buckle for finishes under 24 hours.

Entry is managed by a lottery process with a waitlist. The race provides course maps and GPS files. Crew, pacer, and drop-bag support are allowed only at specified aid stations and must follow published rules; pacers must register and meet age and conduct requirements. The event requires compliance with National Park Service rules while on park land, enforces leave-no-trace practices, mandates carrying personal hydration and night lighting, and prohibits off-trail travel and unauthorized transportation.
