Red Kite Race 2026
The Red Kite Race is a trail event in the Derwent Valley held on Sunday 04 October 2026. The course is an off road loop of approximately 10km with about 256 m of ascent (840 feet). The route is fully marked and marshals are positioned at key points; a GPX file of the course is provided.
The race takes place in an area known for the red kite, a bird of prey noted for its long forked tail and reddish brown plumage. The terrain includes valley trails, climbs and stretches beside open sky and streams.
Entry is managed through SiEntries with fees listed as UKA member £20 and non member £22. Entries will also be accepted on the day by cash only, subject to availability. Winners trophies and medals are to be announced.
Minimum age to enter is 18 years. Registration happens at the Dipton Jubilee Centre, Front Street, Dipton, DH9 9DR. Toilets are available inside the registration area. Aid stations on the course will provide water.
The race has evolved since its first running in 2015, with course adjustments made in response to forestry management and other route changes over the years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
