Event Format
The Turbine Backyard Ultra is a race following the same format as Big’s Backyard Ultra. Competitors must complete a 4.1-mile loop within a one-hour time limit. At the start of each subsequent hour, they must begin the same loop again. This continues until only one runner remains. A bell is sounded exactly on the hour; any runner not in the starting area when it rings is disqualified and receives a DNF (Did Not Finish).
Course & Logistics
The 2026 course is a new route on private farmland near Tow Law. Each loop has mixed terrain including farmland, single-track trail, and woodland dirt tracks, with approximately 400ft of elevation gain. The course is fully waymarked and marshalled. Camping and parking is available from the day before the event. A feed station with hot and cold water, a microwave, and a toaster is provided for runners and their crew. Toilets and first aid cover are available.
Participation & Rules
The race starts at 10:00. Entry is available for solo runners or teams of up to five people. Competitors must be 18 or older. The event is held on private land, so the route cannot be previewed before race day. Participants must wear appropriate clothing for the weather; officials can prevent runners from continuing if deemed inadequately dressed. A head torch and spare batteries are required for night running.
What Participants Receive
All competitors receive a bespoke eco memento. Prizes are awarded for the last person standing, the last team standing, and an "assist" category. There is free camping for runners and their crew, and access to basic provisions like water, tea, coffee, fruit, and sweets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
