Red Eft 5.5 Miler
The Red Eft 5.5 Miler is a road running event based at the High Knob Destination Center (HKDC) just outside downtown Norton, Virginia. The out-and-back course travels into Flag Rock Recreation Area and returns to the HKDC parking area. Directional arrows, signs, and course marshals are placed at critical intersections, and arrows will be spray painted on the road.
The race is held on an open course, so vehicles may be present on the roadway. Runners are advised to remain visible and avoid running in the middle of the road, especially where the route includes sharp and blind curves. Aid stations with water are located at approximately the 1.9, 2.75, and 3.4 mile markers. Restroom facilities are available at the registration site and at locations along the course.
Race timing is handled manually; runners should display their bibs clearly at the finish so times can be recorded. Race packets include a race shirt and bib with pins. Race day registration and packet pick-up take place at the High Knob Destination Center and the race day fee is $45. Awards are presented to the top three men and women and to overall masters (age 40 and up), and finisher pins are given to all finishers. All proceeds benefit program development at the High Knob Destination Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
