Red Eft 5.5 Miler, Norton VA
The event is a road running race of 5.5 miles that starts just outside downtown Norton at the High Knob Destination Center (HKDC) and follows an out-and-back route into Flag Rock Recreation Area before returning to the HKDC parking area for the finish. The race takes place on open roads; vehicles may be present and the route includes sharp and blind curves, so runners are advised to stay visible and avoid running in the middle of the road.
Race packets are distributed at the High Knob Destination Center and include a race shirt and bib with pins. Restroom facilities are available at the registration site and at locations along the course. Timing is done by hand; runners should have their bibs visible as they cross the finish so times can be recorded.
Aid stations with water are located at approximately the 1.9, 2.75, and 3.4 mile markers. Participants are asked to dispose of cups near the road edge to help volunteers. Awards will be presented to the top three men and women and to masters overall (age 40 and up), and all finishers receive a finisher pin. All proceeds benefit program development at the High Knob Destination Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
