Event Overview
The Raynedeer Run takes place on the Flitch Way, a former single-track railway line that stretched for 15 miles through the Essex countryside between Braintree and Bishops Stortford. The course is located at Rayne Station and utilizes a traffic-free, out-and-back route on a hard-packed trail. The terrain is largely flat with some gentle inclines and declines.
Participants can choose from several distance options, including morning and afternoon sessions:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- 6-hour Challenge
Course Details
The event is held on a lapped course where each loop measures 5.3 km. Runners completing the half marathon will cover four laps, while marathon runners will complete eight laps. For those entered in the 6-hour challenge, the goal is to complete as many laps as possible within the designated time limit.
Facilities and Support
An aid station is positioned at the end of every lap, providing water, squash, flapjacks, fruit, and nuts. This is a cupless event, meaning participants must bring their own reusable cup or hydration vessel; no disposable cups are provided at the aid station. A bag drop area is available for runners to store personal supplies. The race headquarters is located near a local cafe and a scout hall, which provides indoor space and toilets.
Parking is available on New Road, opposite the Flitch Way, as on-site parking at the station is limited. The event is UKA affiliated and serves as a qualifying race for the 100 Marathon Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
