Rapid City Marathon & Half Marathon
The Rapid City Marathon & Half Marathon is a multi-distance running event held in Rapid City, South Dakota. This event takes place over a weekend in July and allows participants to experience the local scenery through various road and trail sections.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- Marathon (42.2 km)
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- 5k
The Marathon course begins at the south side of Lake Pactola in the beach parking lot. Runners head north along the shoulder of Highway 385 toward Merritt before turning back toward the Highway 44 intersection. The route follows Highway 44 into town, eventually transitioning to a bike path via Cleghorn Canyon Road to reach the finish line.
For the Marathon and Half Marathon, participants are transported by bus to their respective starting locations. The Half Marathon start is located at Lombardy Drive. The 5k event takes place around the Memorial Park Bandshell and lake area.
Nutrition stations are positioned along the course, providing water, sports drinks, gels, and various snacks such as potato chips and cookies. Registered participants for the longer distances receive a finisher medallion and a t-shirt. Awards are presented for race categories, and additional items such as engraved beer glasses are available for purchase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
