Mount Rushmore Half Marathon : September 12, 2026
The Mount Rushmore Half Marathon is a point to point race in the Black Hills of South Dakota covering 13.1 miles. The route begins on a well-packed dirt road at Ghost Canyon Getaway in Hermosa and moves onto pavement after about three miles, finishing at the Borglum Story Museum in Keystone. The course includes sustained uphill sections, a final downhill stretch before the finish, and multiple views of Mount Rushmore and surrounding Black Hills scenery.
Event logistics note parking at both the start and finish, with shuttles returning runners who parked at the start. An expo and bib pickup take place in Keystone at the Baymont by Wyndham the Friday before the race; on-site morning pickup is typically available and shipping of bibs is offered for a fee. The race publishes a course time limit of four hours and lists five aid stations and an elevation gain of about 1,850 feet.
The event follows a cup-free, zero waste approach: runners may bring a lightweight reusable cup or a personal hydration system and use self-serve aid stations with water and electrolytes. Race shirts are distributed at the expo and finisher medals are awarded at the finish. Place medals are given to the top finishers overall and by age groups, and finisher photos and live results are provided after the event.
