Mount Rushmore Half Marathon
The Mount Rushmore Half Marathon takes place on September 12, 2026. The start line is at the Ghost Canyon Getaway near Hermosa, South Dakota. The finish line is at the Borglum Story Museum in Keystone, South Dakota.
The course is a paved half marathon that begins on a dirt road for approximately the first three miles. It is described as an uphill route with an elevation gain of 1,850 feet, reaching a maximum elevation of 5,440 feet. The course offers views of Mount Rushmore and the surrounding Black Hills. It has a time limit of four hours.
Logistics
Bib pickup is held at the race expo on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Baymont by Wyndham in Keystone. On race day, parking is available at the start line, and optional shuttles run from Keystone to the start between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Shuttles also return runners from the finish line back to the start line parking area after the race.
There are five aid stations along the course providing water, Gnarly Hydrate electrolyte drink, Honey Stinger gels, and fruit. The event has a zero-waste, cup-free policy, so runners are asked to bring their own reusable cup or hydration system. Awards are given to the top five overall male, female, and non-binary runners, as well as top finishers in masters and standard age groups. All finishers receive a medal.
