About the race
The Ranelagh Half is an annual half marathon that dates back to 1980. The course is described as flat and fast and follows the Thames Towpath through Ham, Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington and Kingston, turning at Kingston Bridge to return to Ham. The race headquarters, start and finish are on Riverside Drive open space at the junction with Ham Street (postcode TW10 7QA). The event is part of the Surrey Half Marathon Championships, the Surrey Road League, the Ranelagh Harriers Summer Road Grand Prix and the club Half Marathon Road Championships.
The race was awarded a Gold rating in 2025 on Racecheck. The race is fully chip timed. Water is provided in paper cups at approximately 2.8 miles (4.5 km), 6.8 miles (10.9 km), 8.5 miles (13.6 km) and 11.4 miles (18.3 km), with additional water at the finish. Course support includes marshals at more than 80 points and seven lead, roving and tail bikes.
Toilets, changing facilities and showers are available at Richmond & Kew FC, with additional portable toilets on site. A manned bag drop is provided. Prizes include podium positions, age-category winners, a first team prize (four to score), spot prizes and a cash prize of £100 for a new course record. The race uses sewn race patches instead of mass medals.
Minimum entry age is 17 and there is a three hour cut-off. Roads are not closed to traffic and in ear and over ear headphones are prohibited; bone conducting headphones are allowed. The course is not suitable for wheelchair users; blind or partially sighted runners may be accompanied. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
