Event Overview
The Racin’ to Beat Cancer event features three distances: a 5k, a 10k, and a half marathon. It takes place on October 3rd, 2026, at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. Proceeds benefit the charity We Rock Cancer.
Distances & Course
The course is on trails through Burke Lake Park. It is described as fairly flat and well-maintained, though runners must navigate some tree roots.
- Half Marathon: An out-and-back route covered twice.
- 10k: A single out-and-back route.
- 5k: A single out-and-back route.
Runner Information
Runners in all distances receive a finisher’s medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing. A virtual run option is also available.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall, as well as to first and second place male and female finishers in standard age groups. Participants placing in the overall top three are not eligible for age group awards.
The event is part of the organizer's points series, counting toward the Year-Long and Fall series. A specific "Back of the Pack" time is listed (11:30 AM for 5k/10k, 12:30 PM for the half) for a series geared toward participants with paces above those times; it is not a course cutoff.
Race Day Logistics
Packet pickup and registration are available on race day, with a recommendation to arrive one hour before the scheduled start. The price increases by $5 per distance on race morning. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations before September 23rd; later registrants receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis.
Multiple water stations are provided on each course, with Gatorade available at some. Restrooms are located at the far end of the parking lot from Shelter A.
