Event overview
The 2026 Lost Dog 5k & 10k takes place on October 3 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. The event offers both in-person and a virtual race option. The race benefits the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, which reports helping homeless pets through rescue, foster, and adoption and cites 40,000 lives saved since 2001.

Race details
The course is paved with limited hills. The 5k is an out-and-back; the 10k is two laps of the 5k. The event is chip timed. Runners receive a finisher’s medal and a technical (drifit) event shirt; shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before September 23.
Water stations are placed along the courses: four stations on the 5k at about mile markers 0.5, 1.25, 1.85 and 2.6; eight stations on the 10k at about 0.5, 1.25, 1.85, 2.6, 3.6, 4.35, 4.95 and 5.7 miles. Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are located near the Visitor Center.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in age groups ranging from 19 & under to 70+. The event counts toward year-long and fall series points, including a Back of the Pack series with a listed BOTP time of 11:00. Live results will be available during the race and final results with series points will be posted the Monday after the event.
Registration fees vary by distance and date; prices increase on race morning by $5. Packet pickup is available at the event and race day registration is provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
