Race to the Rock - 5K Run
The Race to the Rock 5K is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. The event is presented as part of a "Race for Recovery" weekend that also includes the Slam the Dam 10K; the Lake Lure Triathlon is postponed because the lake is not yet suitable for swimming.
The course finishes at the top of Chimney Rock State Park, with a reported 75 Mile panoramic view of the Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. The race follows recovery efforts after damage from Hurricane Helene in 2024 and is organised by the Lake Lure Olympiad Committee.
All spectators and participants are required to exit the mountain after the race and awards. Participants will be permitted to return to the mountain at no charge once the park reopens. All park trails will remain closed until the park formally reopens.
Packet pick-up is scheduled the morning of the event from 6:00 am to 7:15 am; the packet location is to be announced. The event listing notes an age minimum of 10 years for participants and provides a single individual entry option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
