Race to the Rock
The Race to the Rock is a running event taking place in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. This event is organized by the Lake Lure Olympiad Committee as part of a "Race for Recovery" weekend following the environmental impact of Hurricane Helene on the Chimney Rock and Lake Lure areas.
The event consists of a single distance:
- 5 km individual running race
The course features an ascent through Chimney Rock State Park. The finish line is located at the top of the mountain, offering a 75-mile panoramic view of the Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. Due to the location and recovery efforts, all participants and spectators are required to exit the mountain immediately following the completion of the race and the awards ceremony.
Access to the mountain is managed in coordination with the state park operations. While the park trails remain closed during the event, participants are permitted to return to the mountain at no additional charge once the park officially reopens for the day. Registration for the event is open in advance, with a set registration fee and deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
