Kanuga Triathlon
The Kanuga Triathlon in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is scheduled for August 22, 2027. Registration opens January 7, 2027. The event combines open water swimming, road and mixed-surface cycling, and trail running within the Blue Ridge Mountain setting.
Distances include:
- Swim: 600 meters open water single-loop with a time-trial start
- Bike: 13.5 miles mixed surface, primarily paved with two short unpaved connectors
- Run: 5K (3.1 miles) mix of single-track, double-track, forest road, and paved sections
The swim uses a single-loop, time-trial format intended to reduce congestion. The bike course is rolling and curvy; road bikes with wider tires, gravel, cyclocross, or mountain bikes are appropriate. The race includes a dedicated E-Bike Division. The run features gentle climbs and runnable flats across varied trail surfaces.
Event services and features listed by the organizer include a commemorative shirt if registered by July 12 (fee applies after that date), a custom finisher medal, professional chip timing with timing mats and bib-mounted chips, age group awards, and GPS-supported course navigation. A virtual race option is available and virtual participants receive mailed swag. The event is part of a weekend challenge that pairs the triathlon with a Twilight Trail 5K and offers combined finisher items.
The organizer states events proceed in most weather conditions unless conditions are dangerous, and that refunds are not issued; options such as transfer to the virtual event or deferral are provided under specific terms. The race supports the iDream Athletes Foundation, which provides needs-based scholarships for Western North Carolina participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
