Kanuga Triathlon - Hendersonville, NC
The Kanuga Triathlon is a multisport event set in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Hendersonville, North Carolina. The race combines an open-water swim, a mixed-surface bike course, and a trail-oriented 5K run. Organizers provide professional chip timing, custom finisher medals, age-group awards, and clearly marked routes with GPS-supported navigation. Participant shirts are provided free if registered by July 12; the price is $25 after that date.
The course distances:
- 600 meters open water swim
- 13.5 miles mixed-surface bike
- 5K (3.1 miles) trail run
The swim uses a single-loop, time-trial start designed to reduce crowding. The bike course is primarily paved with two short unpaved connector sections of about one mile each; a dedicated E-Bike Division is offered. The run route includes single-track and double-track trail, forest road, and paved sections with gentle climbs and runnable flats.
The event is part of a weekend series that includes a Twilight Trail 5K on the preceding day; participants in both races receive finisher medals plus a RUN WNC towel and commemorative sticker. On-site lodging and primitive camping are available at Kanuga Inn & Lodging with discounted participant rates. A virtual race option exists, and in-person registrations may be transferred to the virtual option before the race start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
