Event Overview
The Tennessee Aquarium organizes the annual Race to Save the Laurel Dace as part of Laurel Dace Day, a conservation celebration. The event raises awareness for the Laurel Dace, a critically endangered small fish native only to two streams near Spring City, Tennessee.
Race Distances
Participants can register for several options:
- A 10K race
- A 5K race
- A half-mile fun run
- A Virtual 5K for those who wish to participate remotely
Course and Finish Area
The course is described as mostly flat and goes through historic downtown Spring City. The finish line is located in the Spring City Nature Park next to the Piney River.
Participant Perks and Awards
All registrants receive a custom event t-shirt and a finisher prize. For the 5K and 10K races, trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Age group medals are also awarded.
Post-Race Festival
After the race, a festival takes place at the finish line in the nature park. It features a local farmers market, artisan vendors, music, food and drink options, and activities with the Tennessee Aquarium's conservation scientists and educators.
