Event overview
Race to Save the Laurel Dace is organized by the Tennessee Aquarium and takes place on May 16, 2026 in Spring City, Tennessee. The road race kicks off the 2nd Laurel Dace Day, a conservation celebration and festival focused on the locally native, critically endangered laurel dace fish. The event finishes at Spring City Nature Park next to the Piney River and follows a mostly flat route through historic downtown Spring City.

Participant inclusions and awards
All registrants receive a custom Laurel Dace race t-shirt. All finishers receive custom finisher medals. 5K and 10K awards include top three overall male and female, plus top male and female in the 16-25 age group. The virtual 5K option includes t-shirt delivery and a flat $10 shipping charge.
Event activities
Post-race activities at Spring City Nature Park include a local farmers market, artisan vendors, music, food and drink, and educational activities led by the Tennessee Aquarium’s conservation scientists and educators. The event raises awareness of the laurel dace, a small minnow native only to two nearby streams that is threatened by drought and sediment pollution.
