Race to Save the Laurel Dace
The Tennessee Aquarium organizes an annual road race in Spring City to launch Laurel Dace Day, a conservation celebration that raises awareness of the critically endangered Laurel Dace, a small fish native to nearby Walden's Ridge.
The event offers several participation options:
- 10K
- 5K
- Half-mile fun run
- Virtual 5K with t-shirt mailed to participants
The route goes through historic downtown Spring City and is described as mostly flat. The finish area is at Spring City Nature Park next to the Piney River. After the race, the festival area includes a local farmers market, artisan vendors, music, food and drink, and activities led by the Tennessee Aquarium's conservation scientists and educators.
All registrants receive a custom 2nd Annual Laurel Dace Race t-shirt and finisher awards. The 5K and 10K include trophies for the top three male and top three female overall, plus top male and female medals in these age groups: 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-55, 55+. A virtual participation option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
