Race to Save the Laurel Dace is an annual road race hosted by the Tennessee Aquarium in Spring City, Tennessee on May 16, 2026. The event supports Laurel Dace conservation and is part of Laurel Dace Day, a local festival that raises awareness about a critically endangered fish native to nearby Walden's Ridge. The Laurel Dace is a small minnow found only in two small streams near Spring City, grows to about three inches, and is threatened by drought and sediment pollution.
Race details
The event takes place in historic downtown Spring City with a mostly flat out-and-back or loop course that finishes in Spring City Nature Park beside the Piney River. Distances offered include:
- 10K
- 5K
- Half-mile fun run
- Virtual 5K (t-shirt mailed)
All registrants receive a custom Laurel Dace race t-shirt. Finishers receive custom finisher medals. 5K and 10K awards include top 3 overall male and female, and top male and female in the 16-25 age group.
Festival and virtual option
Post-race activities at Spring City Nature Park include a local farmers market, artisan vendors, music, food and drink, and activities with the Tennessee Aquarium's conservation scientists and educators. The virtual 5K option allows participants to run at home and receive the event t-shirt by mail; virtual pricing reflects a flat shipping fee.
