Race to Save the Laurel Dace
The Race to Save the Laurel Dace is an annual road race organized by the Tennessee Aquarium to kick off Laurel Dace Day, a conservation festival. The event raises awareness for the Laurel Dace, a critically endangered fish found only in two small streams near Spring City, Tennessee.
Three race distances are offered: a 10K, a 5K, and a Half-Mile Fun Run. There is also a Virtual 5K option for participants who cannot attend in person. The course is described as a mostly flat run or walk through historic downtown Spring City, finishing at Spring City Nature Park next to the Piney River.
All registrants receive a free custom t-shirt. All finishers receive custom race awards. After the race, festivities at the finish line include a local farmers market, artisan vendors, music, food and drink options, and activities with the Tennessee Aquarium's conservation scientists and educators.
