Road Race for Conservation
The Race to Save the Laurel Dace is an annual event organized by the Tennessee Aquarium in Spring City. This road race serves as the kickoff for Laurel Dace Day, a festival dedicated to raising awareness for a critically endangered local fish species found on Walden's Ridge. The course takes participants through historic downtown Spring City and is described as being mostly flat.
The event offers several participation options to accommodate different preferences:
- 10k road race
- 5k road race
- Half-mile Fun Run
- Virtual 5k for those unable to attend in person
All participants receive a custom event t-shirt and a finisher award. For competitive runners in the 5k and 10k categories, trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Additionally, medals are provided to the top male and female runners in several age groups, ranging from 16-24 to 55 and over.
The finish line is located at Spring City Nature Park adjacent to the Piney River. Following the run, the finish area hosts a variety of festivities including a local farmers market, artisan vendors, food and drink options, and music. Conservation scientists and educators from the Tennessee Aquarium also provide educational activities for attendees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
