Event Overview

The Race to Protect Delaware’s Children 5k Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Glasgow Park Playground on Pulaski Highway in Newark, Delaware. The event includes two participant categories: a standard 5k run/walk and a competitive walking 5k where running or jogging is not permitted. Registration for both categories costs $39.44. The event benefits the Office of the Child Advocate, the Protecting Delaware’s Children Fund, and Prevent Child Abuse Delaware.

Course & Participation

Day-of registration opens at 9:00 AM, with the 5k starting at 10:00 AM. The event uses the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System managed by R2R Timing for chip timing. Results are posted online during and after the race. Organizers state that dogs are not allowed and race bibs are non-transferable. The registration policy states there are no refunds.

Amenities & Awards

Pre-registered participants receive a T-shirt, with additional shirts available on a first-come, first-served basis for day-of registrants. An after-party includes music and post-race refreshments. Awards are given to the top overall male and female finishers, top male and female masters, and the top three male and female participants in various age groups. Awards are also given to the top three male and female competitive walkers.
