Race to Protect Delaware's Children 5k

The Race to Protect Delaware's Children 5k is a community athletic event held at Glasgow Park Playground on Pulaski Highway in Newark, Delaware. The event supports the Office of the Child Advocate, the Protecting Delaware’s Children Fund, and Prevent Child Abuse Delaware. Participants gather to engage in a physical activity that benefits child advocacy and protection services within the state.

The event features two primary participation categories:

  • 5k Run/Walk: An open event for participants who wish to either run or walk the course.
  • Competitive Walking 5k: A specific category for athletes who intend to walk the entire distance. This category strictly prohibits running or jogging.

The course is professionally timed by R2R Timing using the MYLAPS BibTag system. Scoring for top overall male and female finishers, as well as masters, is determined by gun time. All other age group awards are based on net chip time. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in several age groups, starting from 13 and under up to 70 and above. Special medals are also designated for the top three male and female competitive walkers.

Participants who register in advance receive a t-shirt, while those registering on the day of the event receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis. The event includes an after-party featuring music and post-race refreshments. Due to insurance requirements, dogs are not permitted on the course, and race bibs are non-transferable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
