Race the Train 2026 takes place on 12 July 2026 in Bury, BL9 0EY. The event is organised by Trail Blazing Events in partnership with East Lancashire Railway. The run starts at Bury Train Station on the sound of a steam train whistle and finishes at Rawtenstall Station.
Course and logistics
The course is point-to-point, running north from Bury alongside railway lines and the River Irwell to Rawtenstall, with an approximate distance of 11 miles. A steam train follows the route: it travels south to the next station, changes tracks, then heads north and may catch up with runners on the way to Rawtenstall. Friends and family can ride the train and observe runners from the train.
Entry and tickets
Minimum age for entrants is 16 years. Standard entry price is £32.65, which includes a £2.65 administration fee. An additional charge of £5 may apply on the day if places are still available.
