Race overview
Race the Tide, Chase the Train is a multi-surface coastal race located in West Somerset. The event features a route of approximately 7 miles that follows a circular path between Blue Anchor and Minehead.
The course is flat and utilizes a variety of surfaces, including sandy beaches, the coastal path, and the Steam Coast Trail. Participants run along the water's edge from Blue Anchor to Minehead and return via the path alongside the West Somerset Steam Railway. The terrain consists primarily of sand, short grass, and tarmac, though runners will also encounter sections of smooth pebbles and uneven surfaces.
Directions and details
The race utilizes a wide start line at Blue Anchor, and while the route is officially unmarked, marshals and signage are placed at key points to guide participants. The event provides several facilities and services:
- 7 miles: Multi-surface coastal loop on sand, grass, path, and tarmac.
Water stations are situated at 3.7 miles in Minehead and 5.5 miles at Dunster Beach. First aid is available at the turnaround point and the finish line. Facilities at the race headquarters include flushing toilets, showers, and a refreshment area offering meals and drinks.
All finishers receive a medal and an ice cream at the completion of the race. Participants who enter online before a specific cutoff date also receive a t-shirt. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers, as well as winners in age categories starting from 40 through 70+.
