Storm the Fort : Brean Down, Somerset
Storm the Fort is a night trail running event on Brean Down, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset (TA8 2RS). It forms part of the Dark Skies Series and has received gold awards. The event offers two route options:
- 5 km
- 10 km (two laps of the 5 km circuit)
The traffic-free course runs along the ridge of Brean Down and passes through the old fort buildings. Runners will encounter a couple of short climbs on good trails and tracks, a steep climb onto the down, a technical short section to reach the main ridge, and a descent back to the finish. The route is way marked and uses reflective markers to aid navigation at night.
Entrants must wear a head or chest torch with at least 250 lumens; those without an adequate torch will not be allowed to take part. Trail running shoes are strongly advised. Headphones are not permitted. Runners under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult; 16 and 17 year olds may run solo with parental consent.
Facilities include first aid cover, water at the event hub and finish, and toilets near the cafe. Parking is in the National Trust car park or overflow car park; payment is required and the overflow car park is cash only. Wooden finisher medals are optional and must be purchased at least eight days before the event.
Entries open 1 March 2026. Individual entry price is £21.00 and series entry is £80.00; medals cost £7.00 plus a booking fee. Entries close 13 January 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
